The Travesty of Our Time
by T.A. Odinson Walsh, 1519-CG/CW
While there are many things in this age which sadden me or leave me feeling ashamed of my fellow man, there is nothing…absolutely, positively nothing which leaves me with a lump in my throat or unabashed bitterness in my heart like the "legalization" of abortion. That we have permitted this issue to be addressed as a "womans right" does not, as liberals would have us believe, attest to the "victory over patriarchal and misogynist society", but rather stands as both profound and pathetic testimony to the detriment our modern emphasis on "individualism" has imposed upon our culture. In a country, like the united States of America; which purports to represent the "epitome" of advancement in Human Rights, what possible claim to such virtue can we have when the most vulnerable among us are the lives least regarded? And we have the nerve to call our ancestors "Barbarians".
Going through a recent newspaper I happened across an article on yet another "Supreme Court" debate on the issue of abortion. Let me repeat that --one more Supreme Court debate on the issue of abortion. Friends, kinsmen, countrymen, is it just me, or is the fact that there is even a debate about whether or not it should be legal to murder our unborn children, the promise and potential of our future (!), in/of itself not evidence of the depravity and detriment to which our world has stooped?! Accompanying said article was a photo of protestors from the opposing sides outside the court (i.e., taken, of course, from behind the pro-life activists, so as to feature the signs of the pro-death/ murder minions), and in the hands of one of the poor, misled pro-abortion activists was a sign that read: "Women are not incubators!" As I stared at that sign, and the look of utter vehemence on the face of the young woman who held it, I realized that we don't merely live in an age of depravity, but in one where we are teetering upon the precipice of outright insanity, and a disconnection from reality that, if left unchallenged, will undo us all.
The fact of the matter is, women are indeed, in addition to many other wondrous and honored things they represent, the "incubators" of our race. It is not mans sometimes misogynist tendencies that make this so, but nature itself which has created women, one may even say blessed womankind with the honorable responsibility of nurturing within their beautiful bodies the precious lives that represent a peoples future. Should women be compelled, forcibly, to mate and carry children? Absolutely not! I am enough the libertaryan (And that's not a typo!), and love, and respect my Indo-European sisters far too much to ever suggest that any of them be forced into anything not of their choosing. That said, however, I believe the choice so many of our women of child-bearing age are misled into thinking concerns their reproductive capacity is instead, or rather should instead concern itself with each woman’s right to choose whether or not she will mate with a man. There are few young woman old enough to consider sexual activity that do not also understand that sexual activity can, and most likely will, result in pregnancy. Granted, the "impositions" on individuality that pregnancy can represent are many, and when women are especially young when pregnancy occurs the obstacles and hardships this can present can, sadly, be overwhelming. Options to relieve said hardships (familial/community aid, adoption, etc.), however, abound, and no young woman, or any woman for that matter, should be permitted to dismiss the following facts: When she made the individual choice to have sex and become pregnant, she simultaneously became responsible for something besides her individuality: another life. All the liberal rationalization and debating in the world which has confused countless women in this age cannot undo that truth, that from the moment of conception the genesis of another individual has begun, and if the very individual who nature has decreed should nurture that individual genesis can't be counted upon to protect its innocence, then who can? How dare this "civil society" we live in today suggest otherwise, adding insult to injury by pretending to be some paragon of "individual rights"!
I should also like to highlight a factor in this matter which all-too-often finds itself consigned to the realm of "irrelevance," the fathers. Generally, when mentioned at all in the abortion "debates", the fathers of unborn children are discussed only in terms of how they have absconded their responsibilities to filial and financial support. It cannot be disputed that there are many men who dishonor themselves in this manner, but to convince a woman that murdering an innocent third-party (e.g.,her child!) is or should be a rational "solution":; or response to those nefarious fathers irresponsibility is both heartless and pointless in a world where, if the woman simply cannot bear the burden, someone will love and cherish that child. Furthermore, this is only half of the "debate" where fathers are concerned, for what of the countless fathers who would be responsible, supportive, loving role-models, had they not been denied the opportunity of fatherhood by a woman the "law" has said has a right to unilaterally end the life of a child that was equally theirs. How is it that fathers individual rights have been rendered irrelevant in this purported "individual rights" issue? In a nation that claims to be a democracy, aren't the pro-abortion mothers (sic) out voted by the fathers who want their children and the child itself; whose certain to choose life for themselves, if they could?
As Odinist men and women there are many issues in this age which conflict with our ethos and ideals. There will be those, I'm sure, who will suggest that abortion is a "political matter", and that we should concern ourselves only with spiritual issues. Such a stance, of course, would demonstrate a fundamental lack of comprehension where our ethos and duty to it are concerned, for in the realm of our ODINIC SPIRITUAL REALITY there is nothing so sacred (in Midgard) as life itself, and no duty that demands our diligence as much as the" preservation of said life. To believe that we can somehow uphold that duty while distancing ourselves from such mainstream “politicized” matters (i.e., matters that adversely affect countless numbers of our kin) is, at best, ignorance and, at worst, absolute cowardice. If we, as Odinist, are to ever be acknowledged openly as the ethical, honorable folk we know ourselves to be, and thus open doors that will permit us to play a more significant role in the Tru' spiritual realization and revelation of our peoples collectively, then we must begin to weigh in on matters such as these so the world may know where we stand, and why we do so, and how our ethos is not so very far outside what the rational mainstream should be after all.
As with so many other issues in this age that stand as contrary to our collective Odinic will, confronting abortion, The Travesty Of Our Time, and the minions who believe murdering an unborn child should be "socially" or "morally acceptable" is a task that will entail innumerable days of frustration. However, hear too loudly the cries of the countless young souls who have known too few champions in this age, so I shall lend a voice where they were denied theirs, and I shall pray for choice that treasures all our heirs.
"Unborn Child"
By: T.A. Odinson Walsh, l5l9-CG/CW
Unborn child, sweet and pure
Whose life they have denied
Because, they say, "we can't be sure"
When no tears have you cried
But weep, I do, for each of you
Who never had a chance
And though I rue, I pray me too
To change this circumstance
Unborn child, promise of
A world still yet to come
So why would they deny you love
That they themselves would want
And why would they all stand and cheer
A womans "right” to take
The life they made but don't hold dear
They say, "for freedoms sake"
Unborn child, sweet and pure
This promise I make thee
This suffering you have endured
Won't go on endlessly
One day all men will stand again
For what they know is Tru' \
They'll fight, and then, be sure, they'll win
The right to life for you
